Guerlain recently added a new serum to its Abeille Royale range, capitalizing on the pearls they already launched few years ago.

The new Guerlain Abeille Royale Youth Watery Oil offers a new visual to the consumers : a serum with settling beads / pearls.

While the description of the texture itself looks extremely innovative (“the power of a serum, the richness of an oil, and the freshness of a lotion”), the formula is actually NOT an oil. It iq a aqueous lotion containing many additives (thickeners and polyols), to give an oily feel to a watery base.

Obviouly, the polymers within the formula do not suspend the pearls, which are settling in the bottom of the bottle.

This is a new interesting visual for a serum, probably not easy to industrialize. Maybe produced in 2 steps : 1st, pearls are added in the empty bottle, 2nd, the bottle is filled with serum. Having solid non suspended particles in a cosmetic formula is always a challenge when coming to industrialization.
